Hermann's Jazz Club has been the place for live jazz in Victoria for 25 years.
Greater Victoria Concert Band, offers 4 different bands for amateur musicians of different abilities to participate in. Westshore Community Concert Band is Greater Victoria's newest community band, starting up in 2002. The goals of the band are to bring musicians with a wide variety of experience together and share in a creative and enjoyable musical endeavour. Sidney Concert Band was founded in 1988. Musicians from across the Greater Victoria area attend practice and play in community / fundraising events throughout the year. Cowichan Consort Orchestra and Choir was founded in 1991. Performing a widely varied program of music mainly from classical literature, the orchestra meets a fresh challenge to its members with each of its concerts. New players are welcome, new choir members also, with the season running September to May. The Civic Orchestra of Victoria is dedicated to providing the opportunity for amateur musicians of varying ages and abilities to perform a wide repertoire of orchestral music. The Hampton Concert Orchestra is the longest continuous run of any amateur orchestra in the Greater Victoria region. The Friends of Music Society is a non-profit, charitable association that utilizes music as the basis for its partnership between those people who have a mental illness and those who do not. The Society offers a variety of musical opportunities for members to perform and practice together, to work, socialize and entertain others. Victoria Conservatory of Music is a professional music school for the whole community that welcomes students of all ages and levels, including children, adult beginners, post-secondary students and professional musicians. Nanaimo Conservatory of Music provides high quality musical instruction to children and adults from Central Vancouver Island. University of Victoria's School of Music, offers a professional education to those who wish to make careers in music. Glanford Middle School Music Program, offers a wide variety of musical opportunities for students including Concert Band, Strings, Concert Choir, Jazz Band as well as a variety of small ensembles. U JAM, Universal Jazz Advocates & Mentors Society, who's purpose is to advocate, mentor, educate, and act as a resource for the community of musicians and music lovers (in the Victoria area) who share a passion for jazz in its many forms. Palm Court Light Orchestra, offering what may be the most affordable, professional, three concert season in both Victoria and Duncan/Mill Bay, B.C, this group is dedicated to performing season after season of light orchestral music in the authentic, palm court style. Victoria Symphony is Vancouver Island's largest and most active professional performing arts organization. Aventa, is dedicated to the performance of new music from the Canadian and international reportoires. Sidney Classical Orchestra, professional classical orchestra in Sidney BC, just north of Victoria. Greater Victoria Youth Orchestra. Victoria Operatic Society, puts on broadway style musical stage productions twice a year JazzFest International, Victoria's annual jazz festival, organized by the Victoria Jazz Society Victoria Ska Fest, a high energy good time! Bastion Jazz Band, a group of like minded, unamplified musicians, who perform traditional New Orleans jazz lappland, versatile Victoria musician Daniel Lapp Paul Wainwright, sax player extraordinaire! Chris Millington, sax player and leader of the house band of the Bengal Lounge at the Empress Hotel! Gene Hardy, a saxophonist / sawyer / violinist / theraminist! Gord is also the director of the popular Summer Jazz Workshop at the Victoria Conservatory of Music. Roy Styffe, multi-instrumentalist (saxophone, clarinet and flute) and teacher Tom Ackerman, multi-instrumentalist (saxophone, clarinet and flute) and teacher Nick La Riviere, Trombone, Electric Bass, Conch Shells (?!?) Phil Dwyer, besides being a terrific saxophone player and composer, Phil runs the "Phil Dwyer Academy of Musical and Culinary Arts" or PDAMCA every summer. Hugh Fraser, Juno Award winning, Victoria-based sizzling trombone player Brooke Maxwell, Victoria-based singer/piano player/saxophonist Mizter Reziztor, Victoria's party band! The Zjazz Trio, Victoria-based trio dedicated to tasteful music expression Bryn Badel, Victoria-based trumpet player and vocalist Lust Life, Victoria-based modern jazz band Vis á Vis, is a Victoria based saxophone quartet. The members are classically trained performers who enjoy playing in a variety of styles from early to contemporary music. Jason Wilson, is a composer/arranger/multi-instrumentalist living near Chemainus who is accepting private students for instruction in Flute/ Saxophone/ Piano/ Theory/ Improvisation/ Music Technology/ Composition Lynne Greenwood, specializes in woodwind instruction NAPBIRT, National Association of Professional Band Instrument Repair Technicians Vancouver Jazz Forum, all the happenings in Vancouver and sometimes Vancouver Island too!
